Judge Faver to take oath Jan. 4 in Starkville December 19, 2018 New 14th District Chancellor Rodney P. Faver will take the oath of office Jan. 4 at 11 a.m. at the Oktibbeha County Chancery Courthouse in Starkville. His predecessor, Chancellor Kenneth Burns, will administer the oath. Judge Burns, who has served since January 2003, will retire Dec. 31. Judge Faver served as part-time Starkville Municipal Judge for nine years. He previously served as Starkville city attorney and prosecuting attorney, and as Oktibbeha County prosecutor. More than 21 years of Judge Faver’s 30 years of private law practice focused primarily on Chancery Court. He practiced law in Florida before returning to Starkville. He is a former supervising assistant state attorney in the Broward County, Florida, State Attorney’s Office. He also was a senior litigation attorney for Cigna Insurance in Florida. He is a member of the Mississippi Bar and Florida State Bar. Judge Faver earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Mississippi State University and a law degree from the University of Mississippi School of Law. He also studied at the Cambridge University College of Law in Cambridge, England. The 14th Chancery District includes Chickasaw, Clay, Lowndes, Noxubee, Oktibbeha and Webster counties. Across the state, 42 new judges will take their oaths of office in ceremonies scheduled during the next three weeks. New judges include three new Court of Appeals judges, 20 new Chancery Court judges, nine new Circuit Court judges and 10 new County Court judges.
